The club runs a number of internal competitions, these take place throughout the summer – all entries are drawn out of a hat and then the draws are put on the noticeboard for everyone. The entries have to be in by the end of April.
Mens Singles and Ladies Singles
Any club player can enter either the ladies singles or the mens singles. One game with no handicap. It is played with 4 woods and the winner is the first person to reach 21 points.
Mens Solace and Ladies Solace
This is open to any club player who did not win a competition in the previous year (this includes the Laurie Cup). Again it is one game to 21 points played with 4 woods – however this is handicapped to reflect the competitor’s ability.
Presidents Trophy
This is a singles game to 21 points open to any club player played with 4 woods. Again this is handicapped to reflect the competitor’s ability.
Pairs Competition
The pairs are drawn out of a hat although we do try to ensure that a weaker player plays with a stronger player – the game is 18 ends and is not handicapped. This is played with 4 woods each
Sets Competition
The first rounds for this will be played on Saturday 13th July
This is a singles competition open to any club player. It is played in two sets of 7 ends. The winner of each set gets one point, and if the set is drawn each player gets ½ point. If after playing two sets the score is a draw then a three end play off takes place with one point available for each end. The semi finals and final will be played over nine ends per set. There is no handicap.
2 Woods
The first rounds for this will be played on Sunday 2nd June
This is a singles competition open to any club player. This is handicapped to reflect ability. Each player only plays with 2 woods, and it is played over 21 ends. In the event of a draw, play one more deciding end (toss a coin to decide who has the mat).
75 UP
The first rounds for this will be played on Sunday 23rd June
It is open to any club player. Each end there are 10 points available – the bowl nearest to the jack scores four points, followed by three, two and one point for the next three nearest bowls. The player with the bowl nearest to the jack will have the mat on the next end. The first player to score 75 points after the end is completed is the winner. At 75 all extra ends are played until there is a clear winner. There is no handicap.
Laurie Cup
This is slightly different – it is open to any player who has never won a competition at any club previously, and the first games are usually played on a ‘round robin’ basis. An ideal way to gain match play experience.
General Rules
Firstly, before you enter any competition you must be available for the final should you get through. These will mostly be played on Saturday 6th September with a contingency of Sunday 7th September in case of bad weather. There may be some finals played before this date due to scheduling difficulties and these will possibly be on Thursday 4th September, so you would need to be available for these dates.
All games will need to be played within the “Play By” date for each round.
The rules for Club Competitions are on the Notice Board by the disabled toilet.
An individual’s handicap is decided by the ‘handicap committee’ – 3 experienced players – who base it on playing performance from the previous year. In Handicap games each player’s handicap will be the starting point on the scoreboard. Handicaps are used in the Solace, 2 Wood and President’s Trophy competitions.
Each player has equal responsibility for the scheduling of a game by the ‘play by’ date and where appropriate the provision of a marker.
When a game has been arranged to play, it is important to book the date, time and rink number in the FPBC Rink booking folder which is situated next to the bar area.
All completed score cards should be placed into the box adjacent to the league fixtures notice board
