Fordbridge Park Bowls Club is affiliated to Bowls England, Middlesex Bowling Association and South
Middlesex B.A.
Although the ground is owned by Spelthorne Council, it is leased to FPBC and we are responsible
for the maintenance of the green, it’s surrounds and the inside of the clubhouse.
The club has full and social members. It also runs a successful U3A
bowls session on a Wednesday morning. The playing season runs from April until September and
we have a full fixture list of competitive and friendly matches against neighbouring clubs. There are
also internal competitions as well as roll ups which are held on a Monday Morning and Thursday
evening. A programme of social events runs throughout the winter.
Fordbridge Park Bowls Club was formed in 2010 from the merger of a number of clubs, who at the time were sharing the green. Although we have no real evidence we believe that the bowls green was laid down in the 1970’s, initially for the use of the public and then becoming home to a number of clubs.
Blue Flame Bowls Club was founded in 1980 for the use of British Gas employees who had moved from London to work at the North Thames House in Staines. Originally called the Capitol
Club it was renamed in 1988. Shortly after, financial support from British Gas was withdrawn and the club decided to open membership to non – employees.
Woodthorpe Bowls Club was founded in 1982 from an idea by members of the Community Centre in Woodthorpe Road. At its peak it had had a membership of 50 which then started to dwindle.
One club was formed from members of the Spelthorne Townswomen’s Guild in 1989, and then later in 1992 renamed Woodlands Bowls Club when it decided to break away from the Guild in order to attract new members.
Other organisations also used the club on a regular basis, namely the Civil Service and the Prison Officers from HMP/YOI Feltham.
